Normally mourners would come at dawn, CBC's Adrienne Arsenault reports from the banks of the Bagmati River, but as the earthquake death toll mounts, funeral pyres at a Kathmandu temple been burning around the clock. 

While the exact death toll is not clear, a UN report citing government officials says more than 4,300 people in Nepal died as a result of the quake. The figure is expected to rise as search and rescue crews continue to move through quake-hit communities.

The government has been offering families free firewood to help the process along, Arsenault reported.

"But some families are now saying that they're actually running out of firewood, that's how many cremations have been happening."

Some bodies can also be found in the forest alongside the river as people wait for an opportunity to complete cremations at the Hindu temple. 

"These people are exhausted, they're obviously grieving, and the reality is they know they have many more nights like this one ahead."
