Jonathan Crombie, who portrayed Gilbert Blythe in the Anne of Green Gables movies, has died, CBC has learned.
He was also the son of former parliamentarian and ex-Toronto mayor David Crombie. A family member confirmed Saturday that he died April 15 at age 48.
His family would not confirm the cause of death. However, his sister said her brother's organs were donated and that he would have been proud of that.
Crombie will be best remembered for his role in the CBC TV movie Anne of Green Gables, in 1984, and its two sequels in 1987 and 2000.
He was also with a sketch comedy troupe featured in the Canadian TV series Comedy Now! in 1998.
In 2008, Crombie performed in the successful Broadway tour of musical The Drowsy Chaperone.
