Ontario NDP Leader Andrea Horwath is expected to break her silence about the governing Liberals' budget this morning.

Horwath broke with tradition Thursday by opting not to do any interviews after the government's budget speech.

Without Horwath's support of the minority Liberals' spending plan, Ontario will head to the polls for an election in June.

One union leader is questioning Horwath's decision to stay silent about the budget.

It's a good budget," said Unifor president Jerry Dias. "This budget has the NDP written all over it. Andrea should be supporting it. It's too progressive for her to walk away from."

PC Leader Tim Hudak has said his party won't support the budget, leaving the NDP holding the cards.

Premier Kathleen Wynne fired off a letter setting a May 8 deadline for Horwath to meet with the premier and say if the NDP will help pass the two budget bills before the end of June.

The letter doesn't say if Wynne would call the budget vote at that point or visit the Lieutenant Governor and ask him to dissolve the legislature and call an election.
