Nearly 400 flood warnings and alerts remained in place Saturday across Scotland, Wales and western England, a day after a winter storm caused flooding in coastal areas.
CBC's Dominic Valitis said the flooding that has already happened has been described by authorities as a major weather event, following a storm that generated winds gusting to 113 km/h in some areas.
"Yesterday, hundreds of homes in southwest England and Wales were evacuated ahead of high tide and thousands more were hit with power cuts. Public transportation is badly affected," Valitis reported.
The River Severn, the longest river in the United Kingdom, broke its banks in the southwestern country of Gloucestershire on Friday.
At least three people have died as a result of the weather.
A search resumed Saturday for a fourth person, an 18-year-old who may have been swept out to sea while taking photographs of the extreme weather in Devon.
Heavy rain and high winds are in the forecast for at least the next couple of days in southeast England.
