Lawyers for former Guantanamo Bay prisoner Omar Khadr are in court in Toronto Wednesday in an attempt to expand his civil lawsuit against Ottawa. Khadr was repatriated to Canada and is serving the remainder of his sentence in an Edmonton prison.

Lawyers for former Guantanamo Bay prisoner Omar Khadr are in court in Toronto today arguing to expand his civil lawsuit against Ottawa.

They want to amend his suit to include a claim that Canada wrongly conspired with the Americans against the detainee.

Khadr was under U.S. detention at Guantanamo Bay a decade ago and Canadian authorities wanted access to him. Court heard RCMP at the time were considering charging him with a terrorist offence.

Documents show the Americans only agreed to allow access to the teen if the Canadians shared information they got from him with them.

Khadr, who is now serving his sentence in Edmonton, says he pleaded guilty to five war crimes before a U.S. military commission three years ago as the only way to get out of Guantanamo Bay.
