A car veered off a rain-slicked highway ramp in suburban Minneapolis, landing in a nearby holding pond and trapping five children underwater for several minutes until a tow truck could pull it out, U.S. authorities say.
The conditions of the children haven't been released, although a St. Louis Park city spokeswoman says said they were unresponsive when they were pulled from the car Thursday morning.
State Patrol spokesman Lt. Eric Roeske says the children — ages 1, 5, 5, 6 and 7 — were taken to Hennepin County Medical Centre.
The 23-year-old driver made it out on her own as the car sank and was in stable condition.
Roeske says the driver's relationship to the children wasn't immediately known. Names have not been released.
