Government Senate leader to seek consensus before considering changes
CBC News Posted: Oct 27, 2013 9:41 AM ET Last Updated: Oct 27, 2013 9:41 AM ET
The leader of the government in the Senate, Claude Carignon, says he is open to amendments to a motion that, as it currently reads, would suspend three Conservative Senators without pay or benefits for two years over allegations of wrongdoing with their expense claims.
"Our colleagues at Radio-Canada did an interview and sat down to chat with him and asked him some very pointed questions," CBC's Hannah Thibedeau said on Sunday.
"What he did say is that, yes, there is a potential to change those sanctions," which would be levelled against Senators Pamela Wallin, Mike Duffy and Patrick Brazeau if the motion is approved.
The Conservative caucus will meet behind closed doors on Monday morning to consider a possible change to the way the motion is worded. Carignon said there would have to be a consensus before any new motion is crafted.
