A 14-year-old girl is dead after she was struck by a dump truck as thousands of students returned to school on Tuesday morning.


Police say the girl was hit at the intersection of Sentinel Road and Lamberton Boulevard — which is south of Finch Avenue East and west of Keele Street — just before 8 a.m.


Paramedics performed CPR on the girl but she was pronounced dead at the scene.


The girl's death comes as thousands of students are busy returning to school for the start of the fall semester and on the same morning police launched a safety blitz to remind drivers to slow down and obey safety rules.
