Fifty years ago, some 250,000 people — young and old, rich and poor, black and white — gathered before the Lincoln Memorial in a show of support for the burgeoning civil rights movement.
The event drew activists including Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and A. Phillip Randolph, as well as actors including Marlon Brando and Charlton Heston, and singers Bob Dylan and Mahalia Jackson.
The event, which some feared would turn violent, proceeded peacefully through the day and was capped with King's famous "I have a dream" address – which would later become one of the most celebrated speeches in American history. The interactive below looks at the March on Washington in 50 different ways, from the organizers and marchers to the people who continue to be touched by King's powerful dream.
