The first athletes to be officially nominated to the Canadian team for the Sochi Olympics will come from the sport of short-track speedskating.
The announcement will be made Thursday at 1 p.m. ET in Montreal, and will be streamed live on CBCSports.ca.
Marie-Claire Rouleau, president of Speed Skating Canada, and Marcel Aubut, president of the Canadian Olympic Committee, will be in attendance.
The 10-team squad is expected to be one of Canada’s most powerful teams at the Sochi Olympics in February.
Four years ago in Vancouver, the Canadians skated away with five medals, including two gold — one by star Charles Hamelin in the men’s 500 metres, and the other came by the men’s 5,000m relay team.
