B.C. Conservative Leader John Cummins will quit tonight after a meeting with the party's board of directors, party insiders say.


Dan Brooks, who ran for the party in the last election and who sits as a director at large, confirms the party's leadership has a conference call to hammer out a few details.


He says Cummins has already indicated the meeting will be his last, although party president Dan Denis says the leader has prior commitments and won't be participating.


Cummins lost his own riding in the May provincial election, when the B.C. Conservatives garnered only 4.8 per cent of the popular vote.


During the lead up to the election Cummins fought off an internal attempt to oust him as leader, but the party plummeted in the polls as a result and Cummins was never able to recover the lost ground.
