Mike Allen is staying on as MLA for Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo despite facing prostitution charges.

A byelection would be costly, Allen told a news conference at his constituency office this morning.

He said he'll continue to consult with the community before deciding his future.

Allen was arrested in a prostitution sting in St. Paul, Minnesota, while attending a conference as a representative of the Alberta government.

Allen left the Progressive Conservative caucus last week. He also repaid his expenses to the Alberta government for the trip.
